The Singer Electric Difference

Our business is built on the refurbishment of electric motors. Whether your motor requires a full rewind or recondition, Singer Electric stands by the work that we provide. We vow that any motor we service will have exceptional quality and superior performance.

Servicing Your Motor:

  • Stator :
The motor stator consists of the motor windings and core. The winding insulation system is fabricated from many materials and installed using special processes. Our shop has the ability to rewind low-voltage motors, such as 480 volts, using a random-wound design. Medium voltage motors (up to 4160 volts) are completed by our shop using form-wound insulation systems. Our motors leads are a multi-stranded cable with insulation to protect the leads from abrasion damage and oil saturation.

Our insulation system is designed to have high quality, reliability, and life expectancy to ensure our customers have a high performing, long lasting motor.

  • Rotor :
The rotor is the rotating portion of a motor. Every rotor is inspected for damage on the rotor bars, resistance rings, lamination, vent ducts, balance weights, and rotor fans. The shaft is further inspected at the bearing journals, seal areas, coupling fit areas including keyways.

Our shop will dynamic balance each rotor, repair any damages found during inspection, and machine any wear/tear on the rotor shaft to ensure the motor rotational assembly will operate smoothly.

  • Bearings :
Electric motors can come with two types of bearings, anti-friction and sleeve bearings. Anti-friction bearings are rolling-element bearings (such as ball, roller, and thrust bearings) that allow the motor shaft to rotate freely at high speeds. Sleeve bearings, also known as babbitted bearings, are typically used on larger motors and allow the shaft to rotate on a layer of lubrication.

The most common cause of failure for the electric motor are the bearings. It is essential that each bearing has proper fit on the shaft and housing, has proper lubrication, and bearing protection devices.

With the increase in using variable frequency drives (VFDs), bearing fluting caused by electrical currents through bearings can cause premature failure. Installation of a bearing protection device, such as an AEGIS ground ring, will ensure the motor bearings will prevent electrical bearing damage. As an AEGIS trained installer, we can offer a two-year warranty against bearing fluting with an AEGIS product installed on your motors. For more information, see AEGIS Trained Installer.
